Edison State College is proud to support “Books for Hungry Minds” with a kick -off event on November 3rd in the Richard H. Rush Library at Edison State College, Lee Campus. The Library Foundation of Lee County (LFLC) and the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and Honors Scholars at Edison State College have partnered to collect “Books for Hungry Minds” during November and December. The Books will be distributed throughout the community by local service organizations.
On November 3, the partners will join students enrolled in the B.S. Elementary Education program, the Early Childhood Education program, and children from a local day care to kick off the campaign. The Media and Public are invited to the “Books for Hungry Minds” kick-off in the Richard H. Rush Library at on November 3rd at 5:30 p.m. Edison State College, 8099 College Parkway, Fort Myers, Florida.
“Our goal is to collect children’s books to supplement food banks within our community. Together we can all provide nourishment for both mind and body.” explained Ginny Yates, President of LFLC.
Faculty, staff, students and visitors are encouraged to donate a new or gently-used children’s book when visiting the Rush Library. The books will be distributed through local community service organizations, including Harry Chapin Food Bank, Community Co-Op Ministries (CCMI) and Cape Coral Caring Center. Books may be donated at the Rush Library through December 8.
“We are pleased to partner in this effort to bring books into the lives of disadvantaged children during their formative years,” explained Ron Temple, President of Phi Theta Kappa at ESC, Lee Campus.
The Library Foundation of Lee County is a 501(c) (3) organization that is a supportive partner of public and private libraries in Lee County through robust fundraising and providing educational and cultural activities.
